Dear Parents and Guardians of Great Langtree Charter Academy students:
We have been through a lot together and I’m happy to report that we are seeing tremendous success moving forward. When our school opened, we envisioned a seamless K-12 model where students started as kindergartners and graduated as well-rounded seniors ready to conquer the world.
As the years have gone by, we’ve encountered some bumps in that road. We knew that choosing the right leadership would be our greatest challenge and we have taken steps to create an academic environment that nurtured and challenged. This past year, we have taken the first steps in reaching our ultimate vision of providing our students with that K-12 model we’ve promised.
We are now looking toward our next steps in this transformation and wanted to keep you informed. As state director, I’ve had the unprecedented ability to take a global view of all our systems and identify what works well and what needs to change. I am happy to report that Mr. Chris Scholl will remain as principal of the upper school. We have seen some terrific improvements in the school culture and positive academic progress.
As part of our restructuring, I’m very excited to announce that we’ve hired Shane Lis as the K-12 master principal who will be ultimately responsible for the success of both the lower school and the upper school. Through this transition, Ms. Nivens will no longer serve as principal of the lower school and we hope to be able to help her find a new place within the CSUSA network. She did a tremendous job of helping to heal the school culture and provided a much-needed calming reassurance to our students and parents. Mr. Lis, who has a 17-year history with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) and who has served six years at his most recent school will provide the long-term stabilization we all seek. His leadership will help both schools excel and will ultimately complete our vision of a seamless K-12 school. We will truly become one school, one community on two campuses.
Expected growth has been met or exceeded every school year while he served as principal at his former school. He completed the CMS Educational Leadership Institute and was selected for CMS Distinguished Leadership in Blended Learning program – a nationally recognized program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina and his Master of Education in educational leadership from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Mr. Lis, as master principal, will be able to utilize the appropriate resources to support both schools and will provide the stabilization and long-term solutions our students need. Thank you for your continued trust and patience as we continue on our road to greatness at our Langtree Charter Academy K-12 schools. Have a tremendous summer. We look forward to an exciting new year!
