Veteran educator brings more than 37 years of academic experience

MOORESVILLE, NC (Aug. 4, 2017) – Langtree Charter Academy Lower Campus has hired Ann Nivens as its new principal for the upcoming school year. Nivens is coming out of retirement and has more than 37 years of academic experience. During her retirement, she served as interim principal for a variety of elementary and middle schools within the Charlotte-Mecklenberg school district. Prior to that, she was principal, assistant principal and elementary school teacher at several schools in Iredell-Statesville school district.

Nivens earned her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and master’s in education from University of South Carolina. She earned her principal certification from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and her Doctorate in educational leadership from Gardner Webb University. She is affiliated with the International Reading Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

Langtree Charter Academy is part of the Charter Schools USA Inc. (CSUSA) family of schools. The school is governed by the North Carolina Charter Educational Foundation which consists of local community leaders: Barbra Bryan, Talitha McGuinness, Beth Allen, Beth Compton, Wayne Turner, Ivonne Reed and Jessica Rainstein. The school is situated on two campuses; a lower campus serving grades K-5 and an upper campus serving grades K-11 in the 2017-2018 school year. Twelfth grade will be added the following year. The lower campus is located at 154 Foundation Court and the upper campus is at 185 W. Waterlynn Road in Mooresville.
